So after everyone drove away I ran into the house and started my project for the week.
I think the pioneers brought my Mom's wallpaper with them across the long trek. Bless them for their endeavors, I felt bad for them as I ripped down every last scrap of paper. Hey, it had a good run but it was time for a change.
I had this planned for a long time that while they were all in California I was going to tear down the wallpaper and paint the walls. But I didn't think of two things...........Travis and Jamie! I didn't tell them what I was doing so after I started moving things out and had some of the first wall done I remembered that they were going to come over and pick up my parents dogs. So I wrote them a little note and hung it on the wall.
"Shhhhh, don't tell Mom and Dad they don't know I am doing this".
So that night after I got home I received a phone call from my dear brother. "Uh.....what are you doing?" So I told him my plans of painting the kitchen. They were both on board immediately (I was so grateful and a little scared). Needless to say, having them on board my plans changed from just tearing down wallpaper and painting to a whole lot more!
A few samples of the lovely wallpaper.
These pictures really don't do this wallpaper justice.
The Old Curtains.
Jamie and I tore down all the wallpaper.Travis textured the walls and ceiling. (He did an amazing job! He is really awesome at this stuff)
Here are all the walls with new paint.
We changed out their backdoor.
The new one has a bigger window and blinds build right in the window.
And now for the new...............in all the excitement I forgot to take pictures of everything after we finished so I had to go over yesterday and take pictures that is another reason it took so long to post.
The New Curtains

Notice the new stove, we did something and broke their old one so they had to get a new one when they got home. Oopps, sorry. Looks great though.

We put in new wood flooring

The pictures aren't the best but the kitchen really turned out nice and I think my parents enjoyed it.
Mom & Dad stop reading here..
Ok for the rest of you, while doing the kitchen I did something to my neck. I am not sure if it was doing the ceiling or the fact that my head was always cocked off to one side from some of the stories Jamie was telling me or what (that girl never ceases to surprise me), but I was in bed for almost an entire week after that. So not only did I have a busy couple of weeks but I lost whole week too. I missed school and couldn't even get out of bed. I am doing much better now and it was worth every minute I would do it all over again for them. They deserve it and it is nothing compared to what they are always doing for me and my family. I just worry cuz they are already talking about taking another vacation with just the two of them. I am not sure I am up for another remodel job just yet.
I love you Mom and Dad! (I know you didn't stop reading where I told you)

That looks really nice. I hope your feeling better. I will take someone's kids to Disneyland if someone wants to do my kitchen.(I will settle for anything you can pick!)
Amazing! You guys did a great job! No wonder your mom loved the suprise.
On the last blog, I did thank my great kids but I forgot to thank my in-law kids. Not only did I get lucky with great kids but I also got lucky with who they all married. They have always been great with Brad and I and that is not always an easy thing (huh Dallas). We love you all.
HOLY GUACOMOLE!!!! The kitchen turned out FABULOUS!!!! I need to come see it in person. I really like the color that you went with. I'm impressed that you got the door ordered with blinds in it and installed in less than a week. You the woMAN!!!!
Wow! What a wonderful surprise to come home to. No wonder Carla and Brad are talking about taking another trip. Great job you guys!
